Hi Dale,

Fingers crossed hopefully things will get back to normal sooner rather than later and it may not come to that.

We are quieter her in Plymouth. Tanker trade down by about half I would say. Cement ships not returning until end/mid May. 1st Cruise ship cancelled their visit for later in the year last week.

Keep in touch, stay safe.

Best Wishes

Julian

PS

The posts I take it are being read so to make it easier for all, further in the conversation trail I have put the name of the port where I am from after my username. If anyone so wishes it is in Profile/Modify Profile/Account Settings.

Hi all,

One of the things we are now looking at is the actual lack of pilotage and the need for our pilots to remain trained. We do have regular vessels arriving with our freight for the Islands using PECs and we will perhaps  look to conduct pilotage training trips on these when things return to normal but with the loss of all of our cruise ship trade at present we could be looking at a year where no pilot was required within the district and therefore re-validation will be impossible for next year.

Hope you are all well and safe.

Best wishes,

Dale

Hi all, this is a test response for Julian.  Hope all are keeping well.  Dont forget there is a lot of CV19 advice on the UKMPA web site and additionally we are in constant contact with the ports associations, Dft, MCA and most importantly the shipping minister.  There's a lot going on in the background working to ensure members' safety whilst piloting ships during this pandemic.

Good morning all,

Hope everyone is keeping safe and doing well.
I wondered if any ports have self employed pilots and what advice has been given to them in respect of loss of pay? We have 3 here on Scilly and at present expect to lose all of our cruise ship trade this year - meaning little to no income for all 3 pilots. Are there any other ports in a similar situation?

Best regards,

Dale
